Four note chords
This page lists the 4-Note chords used by the Chordle game.
7th chords
7th chords are chords which have the chord factors 1-3-5-7.
Tertian chords
The first group of chords are so called tertian chords, which means they can be constructed by stacking thirds.
This means that the intervals between the notes are always a minor third or a major third.

Non tertian chords
This second group of chords are non tertian chords. This means that one of the intervals between the notes is not a third.
These chords still have the chord factors 1-3-5-7, with the exception of the 7th suspended 4th chord, which has the chord factors 1-4-5-7.

Added note chords
The standard model for building chords has three levels:
| Name | Chord factors |
|---|---|
| Triads | 1-3-5 |
| 7th chords | 1-3-5-7 |
| Extended chords | 1-3-5-7-9-11-13 |
Added note chords are chords which do not fit this model.
Specifically, this means that they extend triads using the chord factors 6 and 9, but do not contain the 7th.

Extended chords without the fifth
Extended chords are 7th chords with one or more of the extension notes 9, 11 or 13.
These chords contain at least 5 notes, but by leaving out the 5th, you can play a voicing with only 4 notes. This is a very common practice, because the 5th does not add much colour to the chords.
Chordle uses the 4 note voicings with the chord factors:
- 1-3-7-9
- 1-3-7-11
- 1-3-7-13
This list also includes the 9sus4 chord which has the chord factors 1-4-7-9. As always, the suspended 4th is standing in place of the 3rd.
